Trinity College Dublin Business School

Location   Trinity College Dublin, Pearse Street, Dublin 2

The Client requirements included full planning support for the construction of a new Business School and the restoration of a terrace of 6 No. Protected Structures, and their change of use to student accommodation. The completed Trinity College Dublin Business School is a state-of-the-art development located in a beautiful, historic campus in the heart of Dublin’s city centre. The building supports the activities of the Trinity School of Business and the Department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship providing a 12,000 sq m education facility alongside eight refurbished protected structures, providing student apartments.

Accommodation is arranged around a central triangular atrium space which allows informal gathering, circulation, breakout and exhibition space. Facilities provided in the building include a 600-person multi-mode lecture theatre, raked undergraduate lecture theatres, classrooms and teaching space. Innovation and Entrepreneurship are located on the first floor level. This facility will provide incubator space and offices for businesses to encourage links between students, faculty members and the business community. The second, third and fourth floors are allocated to the Business School. Executive Education is located at fifth floor level together with a new College Boardroom and associated facilities. The Boardroom has views over the Trinity campus and the Rugby Pitch and has access to generous green roof space. The top floor is allocated to executive education.

Tom Phillips + Associates (TPA) provided strategic planning advice to the Client and Design Team during the design, pre-planning and application phase of the project. We contributed to the preparation for the public consultation process and prepared the Planning Report and Statutory Notices. We also peer reviewed all inputs to the Planning Application. Dublin City Council issued a Notification of Grant of Permission on 21st September 2015.
