Decathlon was founded in Lille, France in 1976 and has grown to be the largest sports goods retailer in the world. Today the company has over 1,400 stores in 45 countries and employs circa 58,000 people of 80 different nationalities.
Tom Phillips + Associates (TPA) acted as lead planning consultant in the preparation of a full planning application for the construction of Decathlon’s flagship retail warehouse store and ancillary office headquarters in Ireland, at a site adjacent an IKEA store and associated parking at St Margaret’s Road, Dublin 11. The site occupies a strategic location close to Ballymun Cross at Junction 4 of the M50 on the northern outskirts of Dublin City within the administrative area of Fingal County Council. The site is immediately bounded to the north by the M50 motorway and beyond this Silloge Park Golf Club and Dublin Airport.
It is anticipated that the building will be delivered in two phases. The first phase consists of a 5015 sq m building incorporating sales area, staff welfare, service and ancillary space and offices. The second phase involves the extension of the building to 5981 sq m to create more space for the display and demonstration of products. The site will be developed to create parking and areas for customers to engage in sports activities and try out the products in a safe and attractive environment.
